You Mac users may have heard of iStat before. For those who haven’t, it’s a simple application that gives you details about your system, such as the temperature of your CPU or Hard Drive Capacity.
Slayer, Inc., who made the original iStat widgets, along with other apps, branched off into Bjango, a company who makes iPhone apps, and Bjango have created an iPhone version of iStat, which is available in the iPhone App Store for A$2.49 (at the time of writing).
Bjango have done an amazing job with this application. It looks great, works well and is simple to use (excluding some features to make the uber-geeks happy). When you open the app, you are greeted with a screen that has a list of your device and any available servers, such as a Mac connected to the same wifi network.
If you tap “My iPhone”, you will navigate to a diagnostics page, where you can find almost all the information you may ever need to know about your iPhone (or iPod Touch). This data includes disk capacity, RAM usage and your UDID, MAC Address and IP address(es).

You may have noticed the 4 blue buttons in the above image. These can be quite handy. If you are trying to connect your iPhone to a new wireless network with MAC address filtering, you can easily find your MAC address (and UDID), using this app. You can even email them to yourself beforehand over over your data connection if needs be. The other blue button ,at the top, allows you to free up any unused RAM, or memory, which can often make your device run smoother and faster.

Back to the main screen, you will notice the two Bonjour Servers. To allow access from your iPhone to your Mac’s system information, you have to download the iStat Server, free of charge, from
http://bjango.com/apps/istat/ Once you download the iStat Server, install it, then choose one of the devices from the list and a keypad, with 5 boxes above it, will appear. If you start the iStat Server on your Mac, you will see 5 numbers. Type these numbers into iStat on the iPhone, and then you can view the system information for that server.

There are some more advanced features available through the main screen, along with settings and help.
The app is great for keeping track of your system, and your desktop/laptop computers, without having to leave the comfort of your couch. It’s also especially useful to be able to speed up your device with the “Free Memory” feature.
I hope you found this review/tutorial helpful.
P.S. I’m aware the times change between screenshots, I just took them out of order.
